Peace, Economics, and Kamil Idris

Kamil Idris has studied macroeconomics extensively. His study of economic trends and reading economic markets earned him a reputation for consistency and accuracy. Kamil Idris’ main area of focus related to economics is in the area of intellectual property in addition to developing nations. He is a former Director General for the World Intellectual Property Organization, a former president of the International Union for the protection of new varieties of plants, a former member of the United Nations International Law Commission and former President of the World Arbitration and Mediation Court. He remains a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague. 

Continuing his mission of peace, Kamil Idris headed several committees as recent as 2013. He was President of the Sudan Foundation for the Defense of Syrian People. Kamil Idris was Vice-President for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms and a member of the Sudan Foundation’s Reconciliation and Religious Co-Existence.

International Scholar: Kamil Idris

Kamil Idris was a student of several countries and an academic of multiple fields. Kamil Idris’ academic studies began in Egypt at the University of Cairo. It was there he completed his Bachelor of Arts, Division I with Honors. After Egypt, Kamil Idris returned to Sudan where he studied law. He graduated with his degree in Law with honors from the University of Khartoum. Kamil Idris also earned his diploma in public administration from the Institute of Public Administration Khartoum. He was in the school’s top division.

After studying in Sudan, Kamil Idris left the continent of Africa and continued his education in the United States. Kamil Idris was accepted to study at the University of Ohio where he completed his master’s in International Affairs. Once again, Kamil Idris was a high achieving student and was in the first class average.

Kamil Idris traveled internationally again for his PhD. Leaving the United States, he traveled to Europe where he was accepted to the Graduate Institute of International Studies at the University of Geneva, in Switzerland. Kamil Idris completed his PhD in International Law with distinction. His doctoral thesis was a “Case Study of the Treaty Establishing a Preferential Trade Area for Eastern and Southern African States.”

While studying at the University of Geneva, Kamil Idris expanded his academic interests and a completed academic certificates in International Economics, International History and Political Science, International Law of Development, the Law of International Waterways, and the International Law of Financing and Banking Systems.

Former Head of WIPO: Kamil Idris

Kamil Idris is a native of Sudan who has studied extensively internationally. As a student of the law, politics, economics, and public relations, Kamil Idris was the perfect candidate to head an international organization devoted to the development of nations while adhering to the law. For a time, Kamil Idris worked as the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

While Kamil Idris is no longer the Director General of WIPO, his work with the organization had a profound effect on him. In 2003, he published a masterpiece “Intellectual Property – A Power Tool for Economic Growth,” to demonstrate and illustrate the importance intellectual property has in today’s globalized economy.

He studied international law at the Graduate Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva. In addition to his PhD, Kamil Idris completed a number of academic certifications related to international economics, international law of development, and international law of financing and banking systems. Kamil Idris also supports the role of economic development as a tool for peace.
